Newsletter: April 2005 South Australian Iris Society Inc. Editorial Our first monthly club flower competition was held at our April meeting with entries being submitted by some of our keen gardeners. There were 3 entries in the floral art competition, all of which any of us would have been proud to have taken home and presented to a loved one on Mothers Day. It was obvious that a lot of effort and thought had been put into their composition. The entries in the cut bloom sections were varied with exhibits ranging from Sturts Desert Pea to Nerines and of course tall bearded Iris from those fortunate enough to have blooms appear on just the right day. Why is it that you always seem to have an Iris that decides to bloom just that little bit too early to be shown on that special day. Quite often that same bloom will excel itself, leaving you to wonder could that have been a winner. Gardening can be a very frustrating as well as enjoyable pastime. For those keen competitors, the May floral art competition theme is to feature any one colour tone. Biscuits Natalie Houba would like to share the following recipe with all our members, given that we still need to be thinking ahead for those morning teas on the bus tours during the Iris convention this October. Cherry Nut Biscuits Makes 35 40 biscuits Ingredients
Method. Cream butter and sugar, add egg and vanilla. Beat well.
For those of you who are more talented at sewing rather than baking, dont forget our fashion parade at the Saturday night dinner during the convention. We are hoping for some unusual if not stunning outfits, featuring Iris.
